Closer examines the phenomenology of first encounter—the moment in which a viewer approaches an artwork and is subtly compelled to cross its threshold. The works in this exhibition operate through strategies of seduction and deferral: they draw the eye inward, asking the viewer to slow their pace, recalibrate their attention, and enter into an intimate, prolonged engagement. Through meticulous processes, technical precision, and conceptually layered structures, each work withholds as much as it reveals, prompting a mode of looking that is both analytical and affective.

In bringing the viewer nearer—physically and perceptually—the exhibition foregrounds the artist’s capacity to shape the terms of encounter. These works expose the intimacy of artistic labor, opening momentary access to the maker’s interior world, whether through traces of identity, residues of memory, or the generative space of imagination. Closer ultimately proposes that meaning is not delivered at a glance but unfolds through closeness itself: a gradual, negotiated exchange between artwork and observer.
