The Empty Circle is proud to present Forms of Dynamics, a solo exhibition by conceptual artist Olivia Gossett Cooper. Marking her first solo show in New York City, the exhibition opens on January 29, 2025, with a reception from 6–8pm and will remain on view through March 2, 2025

In Forms of Dynamics, Cooper explores the layered meanings of dynamics, bringing together key works from three distinct phases of her practice. As the artist explains, her fascination lies in the concept’s duality: the physical act of motion and the circumstances or systems that create it.

The exhibition begins with works that reflect on the influence of Futurist artist Umberto Boccioni, capturing the figure in motion or poised on the edge of action. Cooper’s paintings from this period exude energy and tension, evoking the dynamism of bodies and objects as they interact with their environments. Her subsequent stone sculptures borrow these figures and transport them into new contexts, creating narrative works that examine humanity’s impact on the world and our connections to each other.

Her latest works shift focus inward, turning to the power dynamics that exist within domestic spaces. Through found-object sculptures and works on paper, Cooper delves into the relationships between the people, tools, and systems that shape the household. This series interrogates the balance between authority, utility, and intimacy, creating a deeply personal and universal reflection on everyday life.

Cooper’s approach demonstrates a keen interest in storytelling through form, imbuing her works with symbolic weight while maintaining their sense of motion and energy. Across each phase of her practice, she reveals how dynamics are not only forces of movement but also the driving conditions of human relationships and influence.
